Head Downriver

If you want a beautiful view of the city without dealing with crowds, skip the streets, grab a paddle and head for Charles River. This nine-mile stretch is open to kayaks and canoes, which can be rented from Charles River Canoe and Kayak whenever an outing on open water moves you. Offering an incredible view of the Boston skyline as well as access to the Esplanade picnic area, it serves as a quiet respite from the city, and the river is free of current, making at an easy trip for beginners. If you paddle down towards Harvard, MIT and BU, you might even encounter a rowing team or two cutting through the water as they practice. Located less than fifteen minutes from our Boston hotel, the river is a fun and unique way to see the city.
